For those members who enjoy riding a golf cart whilst playing and for those members who detest the noise of our golf carts, we have some good news.
We received approval from The Planning Department to expand our caddie shack building and create space for a fleet of new electric golf carts. The silence will be deafening. The delivery of the new cart fleet will take another two months as well as the building renovation but bear with us, the construction has already commenced and our old gas powered fleet of carts will soon be history.
The next piece of good news is the new golfing season is almost here and we have a full golfing programme with all the usual tournaments so please sharpen up your game on the expanded and improved practice facility which I hasten to add was completed by Norman's agronomy team without external assistance or significant cost.
There are some important changes in the golf schedule to note:
-The Presidents Cup which has been held in the early days of the season in the past few years has changed to 4th and 5th February, 2012. This is the senior medal event of the season and placing it in the heart of the golfing season is appropriate for a tournament of this stature.
-The qualifying medal round for the Club Championship will be held on 28th April and the match play the following weekend. This change to an earlier date was required because there is a Charles Blair Macdonald event at Bandon Dunes, Oregon 11-15th May which we expect a strong team of MOC golfers will be attending. Many of these players will normally play in the Club Championship and we avoided a potential conflict by scheduling the Club Championship earlier. It also means the weather may be a little cooler for the top club event of the season.
-For those members who enjoy playing in the monthly medal but cannot play early mornings, we have created additional tee times from 12.20pm which follow the traditional roll up times. Times will have to be reserved as per normal.
On 21st-24th September a 12 man MOC team, many accompanied by their spouses, will be defending the trophy in the annual Charles Blair Macdonald Tournament being held at Sleepy Hollow, New York. Our players are:-
Brant Kizer, Rod Forrest, Arthur Jones, Hugh Barit, Matt Wirths and John Pickett who play in the junior division and John Buchanan, Ian Fulton, Bob Corrao, Stuart Outerbridge, Terry West and David Smith who play in the senior division.
We look forward to Saturday 1st October and the Opening Tournament. A shotgun start at 1.00pm.
Regards
David Smith
